The City of Milpitas Economic Development Team took a tour of the nearly complete Milpitas BART station scheduled to open early 2019. The tour was hosted by SPUR, a San Francisco Bay Area Planning and Urban Research Association, and the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) which is building the BART extension.
The station includes a parking garage with electric vehicle charging stations, multiple bike storage options, 5 thousand square feet of retail, a pedestrian bridge connection to VTA light rail and beautiful art work on the outside and inside of the station.
The station is anticipated to serve 20,000 daily passengers by 2030 connection Milpitas to Downtown San Francisco in only 60 minutes.
The BART station is part of the City of Milpitas Transportation Area Specific Plan (TASP). TASP lays out the City’s vision for the redevelopment of approximately 437-acre area in the southern portion of the City that includes a number of industrial uses near the Great Mall shopping center. The Plan proposes redevelopment of this area with 7,109 dwelling units, 993,843 square feet of office space, 340 hotel rooms and 287,075 square feet of retail space all centered around the Milpitas BART station and the VTA Light Rail system.
